Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has gotten several sectors therein where the activity of Gorilla Trekking does occur and Buhoma is one of these sectors/Areas situated in Kanungu District. This Sector is popular with trekkers/travelers like as if it’s where Gorilla Trekking was first started in Uganda. The first trekker group saw gorillas first in the Buhoma region of Bwindi National Park (1993)-which basically means this section (Buhoma region) has gotten the oldest Habituated Gorilla family (Mubare group) in the whole of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Mubare family apparently has got 9 members. There are other gorilla groups trekked from the Buhoma section of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which are the Rushegura gorilla group having 16 members, Habinyanja Gorilla Group which consists of 19 members.
How to access this section (Buhoma Section)?
Compared to other regions, this section is easily reached, and considering from Kampala city to Buhoma section it takes you about 8-9 hrs and that’s about 550 km.

Buhoma region has 3 mountain gorilla families. Mubare gorilla Group, Habinyanja gorilla Group, and Rushegura Gorilla-Group each of these gorilla families are trekked/tracked by strictly only 8 people daily implying that a total of 24 Buhoma gorilla permits are in stock for booking each day. And Buhoma gorilla permits cost $800 per person per trek for FNR, $700 for FR with working permits, and Sh 300,000 for EAC in Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and Southern Sudan. Connecting with other regions
Once in the Buhoma section of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one can still connect/link up to the Ruhija section in the East of Bwindi. This means that one can sleep in the Buhoma section and do Gorilla trekking in the Ruhija section and it takes approximately 2 hrs to drive from the Buhoma region to the Ruhija region making it the most preferred by tourists/trekkers/travelers. You can as well be able to connect/link up to the southern side of the Bwindi Impenetrable forest –Nkuringo section from Buhoma by taking a walk/trail through the middle of the forest- Nkuringo safari walk which takes up to three hours(3 hrs).
