Brief information about the tour
There are smart travelers who can’t get enough of Africa’s Mountain Gorillas but only have a few days to spare on their schedules. This 4-Day Rwanda and Uganda Gorilla Safari package is designed for you.
This Gorilla Trekking in Uganda & Rwanda Safari is designed specifically for trekking the endangered Mountain Gorillas in both Rwanda and Uganda, learning about the fascinating life of the former forest people (the Batwa), and visiting Genocide memorial sites to pay tribute to the more than one million victims.
Day By Day Tour Summary
Day 1: City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arriving in Rwanda, you will begin this Safari by exploring Kigali city, where you will visit the Genocide memorial Sites, where over one million people died during Rwanda’s genocide in the mid-1990s.
You will then be transferred to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda, where you will check into the hotel that has been reserved for you in Ruhengeri, close to the park, for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes & transfer to Bwindi
After an early breakfast, you will congregate at the Kinigi Park Headquarters at 8:00 a.m. for a briefing by park rangers on the gorilla trekking activities. Following the designated pathways, you will enter the lush volcanic forest, rich with birds, abundant vegetation, animals including golden monkeys, elusive elephants, and buffaloes, and stunning views of the volcanic peaks through the forest gaps.
The walk includes excellent trekking over varied landscapes, making it an attraction in and of itself. After an hour with the gorillas, you will have a picnic lunch and then travel across the Virunga Volcanoes into Uganda.
You will spend the night at the lodge you have reserved.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast, you will be transported to the Park Headquarters for a briefing on what to do and what not to do while on a Gorilla walk. Following the briefing, you will begin your hike through the dense jungle. Trekking gorillas in Bwindi, Uganda, is difficult due to the rough landscape of steep hills and valleys. The rainforest is alive and teeming with fascinating woodland noises.
The walk lasts between 2 and 8 hours, and you get one hour to spend with the gorillas once they are located.
You will return to the lodge for some relaxation before going on a nature walk in the neighbouring regions or staying at your lodge to relax until supper and sleep.
Day 4: Batwa Cultural Experience & Transfer to Kigali
Following breakfast, you will embark on a community walk with the Batwa people, who used to live in the Bwindi forest before it was designated as a National Park. You will learn about their life and culture as forest people and be astounded by their depth of knowledge on natural medicinal herbs, hunting and gathering, animal trapping, and weather prediction.
In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Kigali. By way, you will see volcanic mountains that define the borders of Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda, as well as their related crater lakes.
