Planning A Family Safari in Uganda With Kids

Brief information about the tour

This is an off-the-beaten-path safari across northern and north-eastern Uganda. It will take you to Gulu, a town in northern Uganda, to break up the long journey to Kidepo. You will next travel to Kidepo Valley National Park, where you will spend three nights exploring the vast park separated into two valleys: Narus and Kidepo National Park.

Day-by-Day Tour Summary

  • Day 1: Drive to Gulu town in Northern Uganda
  • Day 2: Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park for an evening game drive
  • Day 3: Morning and evening game drives in Narus Valley
  • Day 4: Morning game drive in Narus Valley and afternoon visit to Kidepo Valley
  • Day 5: Drive to  Entebbe International Airport

Day 1: Drive to Gulu town in Northern Uganda

After breakfast, you will drive to Gulu, a town in northern Uganda. On the way, you may chose to visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to follow white rhinos or do so on the way back. You will get the opportunity to cross the Nile River and, of course, visit Kaluma Falls before continuing to Gulu for the night. We stop at Gulu to take a rest on the lengthy trek to Kidepo Valley National Park.

Day 2: Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park for an evening game drive

After breakfast, ideally early in the morning, drive to Kidepo Valley National Park. You will enjoy spectacular views of the few hills that separate Acholi Land and Karamoja along the route, not miss the huge Manyatas, pass a few seasonal rivers, and arrive to Kidepo Valley National Park in time for lunch, leisure, and an evening wildlife drive in Narus Valley.

5 day Kidepo Valley National Park safari

Day 3: Morning and evening game drives in Narus Valley

After a warm cup of tea or coffee, head to Narus Valley for your morning wildlife drive. Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, zebras, and birds frequent Narus Valley. Narus valley attracts a large number of animals since it is the only permanent water source. It is home to the world’s largest buffalo herds. Chances of seeing large cats hunting are also extremely high. If you’re lucky, you could even notice some uncommon cheeters. Return to the Lodge for lunch and some rest before heading back to Narus Valley for an evening game drive.

Day 4: Morning game drive in Narus Valley and afternoon visit to Kidepo Valley

5 Day Kidepo Valley National Park SafariAfter breakfast, go to Narus Valley for an additional game drive to locate species that may have been missed during the previous two game drives. Kidepo Valley National Park is the greatest, and you will not be disappointed. The park features viewing sites equipped with binoculars, and you will enjoy using one. Return to the Lodge for lunch and a brief rest before driving to Kidepo Valley to explore the hot springs, the Ugand-Sudan border, and, if lucky, the enormous ostriches that live here but have been heavily hunted by Sudanese. There are seasonal rivers on this side, so if it rains, expect to be halted for a few hours. Return to the lodge to stay overnight.

Day 5: Drive to  Entebbe International Airport

Drive back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport for your international departure flight from Uganda.
