4 Day Rwanda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking Safari

Brief information about the tour

This 4-day gorilla and chimpanzee safari to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Kibale National Park. This is a great opportunity to combine gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (home to half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas) with chimpanzee trekking or habitat experience in Kibale National Park. Kibale National Park has been declared the best place to view habituated wild chimpanzees. This all-inclusive tour will start and end in Entebbe or Kampala and includes return airport transfers.

Day 1: Kampala-Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, you will travel to Lake Bunyonyi, which is located on the eastern edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Your guide will make stops at the Equator crossing at Kayabwe for photographs, a brief discussion, and some experiments before returning to Mbarara for lunch. You will next drive via lovely banana plantations, farmland, and the breathtaking Kigezi Hills. You will arrive in the evening and check into Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Trekkers Tervan Lodge in Western Uganda.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest

After your early morning meal, your guide will transport you to Ruhija Park Headquarters for a briefing and join others before taking you on your gorilla hike into the jungle. This trip might range anything from 30 minutes to 7 hours, depending on the location of the mountain gorilla family on the given day. When you discover the gorillas, you will be able to spend one hour with them studying their behavior and taking pictures before returning to the Park Headquarters to receive your certificate confirming that you have tracked gorillas in Uganda. Stay overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Trekkers Tervan Lodge.

4 Days Gorilla and ChimpanzeeDay 3: Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, we will drive to Kibale National Park and spend the night at the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House. This excursion will take you to Queen Elizabeth National Park area, where you will have the opportunity to see some wild wildlife as we travel through this Savannah-dominated area. You will also have another opportunity to cross the Equator in Kikolongo. As you go from Kasese area to Fort Portal, you will pass various rivers that originate in the Rwenzori Mountains. You will stop in Fort Portal for lunch before checking into Chimpanzee Forest Guest House for the night.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

Following breakfast, you will drive to Kibale National Park Headquarters for a lecture on the Dos and Don’ts of Chimpanzee Trekking. You will be separated into small groups of six individuals, led by a guide who will accompany you into the bush to locate one of the Chimpanzee families. Chimpanzees live in communities of 50-250 people, however they normally break off into small groups throughout the day to decrease competition for food. They will then meet in the evening to construct their nests. Once you’ve found the Chimps, you’ll have an hour with them before returning to the lodge for lunch, refreshment, check-out, and departure.4 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee
