Where to Go Gorilla Trekking in Africa
Gorilla trekking in Africa is possible only in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
These countries are home to mountain gorillas in protected parks like Bwindi Impenetrable Forest,
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Volcanoes National Park, and Virunga National Park.
Congo also hosts lowland gorillas in Kahuzi-Biéga National Park.

How to Book Gorilla Permits
Booking can be done via official wildlife authorities or trusted operators like Monumental Expeditions and Safaris.
It’s recommended to book 3–6 months in advance, especially during peak seasons (June–September and December–February).
Gorilla Habituation Experience in Uganda
Available only in the Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors of Bwindi Forest, this special activity allows you
to spend 4 hours with semi-habituated gorillas. Only 8 permits are issued daily.
Permit Cost: $1,500 (foreign non-residents), $1,000 (residents), UGX 750,000 (East Africans)
Best Time for Gorilla Trekking
The best months are January–February and June–September when conditions are drier and gorillas are easier to locate.
However, gorilla trekking is possible year-round.

Permit Rules, Age Limits, and Accessibility
Permits are non-refundable and non-transferable. Cancellations within 8 days of the trek receive no refund.
The minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years. Sedan chairs are available in Uganda for elderly trekkers.
