When to schedule a Ugandan gorilla acclimatization vacation Monumental Expeditions and Safaris is here to give you information about when and how to book your Uganda Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Many travelers are interested in doing the Gorilla Habituation Experience in Uganda, but they are still unsure of when to book a Gorilla Habituation Safari.
Only in Rushaga and Nkuringo, the southern gorilla tracking sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, is gorilla habituation experience conducted. Two gorilla families, Byikyingi and Bushaho, are now being studied. The Uganda Wildlife Authority established gorilla habituation in 2014 and let anyone who was interested to take part in the process.
The practice of observing and training a single gorilla family to become accustomed to the presence of humans is known as “gorilla habituation.” In order to verify that a group of wild gorillas is ready to be watched by visitors, the researchers and park rangers will select a group to habituate. This process often takes two to three years continuously.
This gorilla troop is visited everyday throughout this period, at least until they become acclimated to human presence. Since gorillas are wild animals that can be quite unpredictable if they are not habituated, researchers take advantage of this period to learn as they gather samples and observe the unique behavioral characteristics of each gorilla. When the group is prepared for tourist tracking, these gorillas are usually christened. They are always put to the test through a mocking exercise prior to being made available for tracking.
In the company of a team of researchers and park rangers, only four visitors are permitted to participate in the habituation process to a specific gorilla group per day per trek. During this process, you are allowed to follow the mountain gorillas in the wild for four hours, counting from the moment you find their fresh trails from where they would have nested the night before.
Please be aware that these semi-habituated gorillas or gorillas in the process of being habituated can be elusive and shy at times, therefore they may choose to hide from you so you can only get up close and personal. Since there are only 4 permits available per day for Habituation Gorillas, Monumental Expeditions and Safaris advises booking your permits three to four months in advance, especially for those planning to travel during the dry months.
The cost of a gorilla habituation permit is $1,500 for each trekker. This ticket covers park admission fees, ranger guides, and security for your protection in the jungle. It also permits you to track and follow the mountain gorillas for four hours.
The ideal time and date to plan a vacation to Uganda for gorilla habitatation
Gorilla Habituation Experience is a year-round activity that may be scheduled at any time. There are just four of these gorillas since they are extremely shy and semi-habituated. Usually, scientists or photographers are among the few who have a deep respect for the gorillas. The optimum time to become habituated to gorillas is in the months of June, July, August, December, January, and February, which is the dry season.
It should be noted that Bwindi National Park is a tropical rainforest with erratic weather, meaning that rain can fall at any time. Though gorillas wander a lot, making the uneven terrain of Bwindi Forest and its slick surfaces less ideal for gorilla habituation, this is still possible during the rainy months.
