Buhoma Mubare gorilla family gets newborn gorilla.
Today, September 5th, 2024, the oldest gorilla family in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, the Mubare Gorilla Family, welcomed a new baby into the world. They live in the Buhoma sector, which is located in the park’s northern half. In 1993, travelers followed the Mubare gorilla family for the first time. Until he hurt himself after falling from the tree, Kanyonyi was the leader of the family and the alpha male.
His inability to defend his family in battle after suffering this injury led to their defeat at the hands of another Silverback named Malaya. After his family passed away, he lived a solitary life until his death, at which point Malaya became the family patriarch.
In order to establish dominance over the females, Malaya slaughtered all of Kanyonyi’s juveniles and newborns. Malaya persisted in following the ladies until he reunited them with their families, even after they left him alone. After a while, he returned two females to his Mubare Gorilla family from the Rushegura family.
The Mubare gorilla family, which includes Malaya and the silverback buhoma, has remained steady since two females were born into the group. Karungi, one of the mothers, gave birth to a baby girl at around 6:00 AM on November 7th, 2019.
The family now has three infants: a nine-month-old, a three-week-old, and a newborn born today. The joy of seeing the longest-lived gorilla family in Bwindi forest continues with the excellent health of both mother and baby Karungi.
There are now eight members of the Mubare Gorilla Family: the Silverback, Malaya, five females (Karungi, Nyampazi, Twesiime, and Buzinza), and three unnamed newborns.
In addition to organizing gorilla trekking safaris to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Great Adventures Uganda is pleased to extend its congratulations to the Buhoma Mubale Gorilla family on the birth of their new baby.
