Public means of transport is also used when going to trek Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park both to and from the destination. One thing you should have in mind first is which section are you going to trek from in the National Park so that you determine which bus to use because this Park (Bwindi) has two sections (Southern and Northern)-If trekking in the Northern section of Bwindi you will need to use Buses through Mbarara, Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Kihihi and Butogota (border town). For the Southern Section of Bwindi use Buses via Mbarara, Kabale then Kisoro town to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. But if you are going to track gorillas in the, whether you are to visit the south or North of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, no public means will transport you up to the park offices. If you decide to go to the North, then you need to budget for a motor cycle transfer from Butogota Town to Buhoma Park offices. Check with your Lodge/Hotel if they can present you transfers to and from Butogota Town. If you decided to tour or venture the southern section, Buses are likely to drop and stop you either in Kabale or Kisoro and from there, you will need to arrange transport either to Nkuringo sector or Rushaga sector
Sectors Nkuringo and Rushaga are situated in the south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Therefore, Gorilla families that reside and stay in them are trekked from there. Rushaga sector involves gorilla families of Nshongi, Mishaya, Bweza, Busingye, Kahungye whereas Nkuringo sector has got Nkuringo Gorilla family only. Buhoma section in the North having Gorilla families like Habinyanja, Mubare and Rushegura.These two other Gorilla families can also be trekked from the same section(Buhoma), that’s Oruzogo and Bitukura if you stay in Kabale town but you will definitely need an early rise to start your drive to the initial point.
There are places to stay in the Southern section of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park like Lodges, Hotels, Camps, etc.(Accommodation), with friendly rates in ranges of Budget/cheap, Luxury/deluxe, Mid-range and these include Nkuringo Clouds Lodge, Nkuringo Safari Lodge, Nkuringo Gorilla Camp, Bwindi Back Packers Lodge, Wagtail, Gorilla Forest Camp, Buhoma Lodge, Mahogany Springs, Engagi Lodge, Gorilla Resort, Silver Back Lodge and Buhoma Community Rest Camp. Post Bus, Gateway Bus Services, Horizon Buses and Bismarkan Bus Company are among the Bus companies that operate and function daily on these routes.
While travelling or transferring please be extra careful with your Baggage/gears/whatever you have on you as there are so many thieves that may target you. Please ensure that you hold your luggage all the time, move with it when moving/relocating out of the Bus at all times. And in this case most targeted items include Laptops, Mobile phones, Money, to mention but a few.so we as Monumental Expeditions Safaris don’t recommend travelling by Public means as the risks therein are more than the benefits but should you decide to do so then be extra careful.
