Road Conditions, Accommodations and Luggage.
Road Conditions: Most of the roads in Uganda and Rwanda are paved, and by African standards, they are in a respectable state of repair. Even though there could be some VERY LONG days spent in the car, the varied and fascinating scenery usually makes up for it!
However, there are some really poor dirt road parts, particularly in the more mountainous regions. In these regions, travel will be more difficult, slower, and may involve a lot of dust. For the lengthier distances, scheduled or charter flights are available; please inquire about costs and viability.
You will be traveling in safari vehicles, which are 4×4 vehicles (mostly Toyota Land Cruisers) that have been modified for local conditions. They have opening roof hatches for the best game viewing, good leg room, and seats 4–7 people, depending on the seating arrangement.
They do have air conditioning, but they drive a little more slowly than a saloon car or a smaller “family” 4×4. Throughout the safari, you will often utilize your safari vehicle for transportation between locations, game drives, and other activities at the lodges and in the National Parks.![]()
Accommodation Facilities
Your lodging could be anything from opulent to modest, depending on the safari’s class or style. Uganda and Rwanda provide a wide range of lodging options, from big hotels to more secluded lodges and tented camps. The greatest lodging alternatives, ranging from three to four stars, are used on our planned departures and most custom itineraries.
Guests may anticipate en suite bathrooms (some with eco-friendly toilets), hot water, delicious meals, bar service, etc. For more information about each location you will be staying at throughout your safari, please refer to your customized itinerary.
Although hot water isn’t always guaranteed, you will have access to showers and toilets if you choose to stay in one of the more affordable local hotels or guest houses. The personnel is welcoming and helpful, while the hotels and guest homes themselves are rather simple and generally clean.
Since few visitors visit these places, local businessmen are the primary users of these hotels and guest houses. Although they can be somewhat boisterous, particularly on the weekends, the environment is welcoming and inviting. Although there are occasionally European or Western foods available, the food is usually good and consists of substantial African fare.
Luggage
It is essential that passengers bring as little luggage as possible due to the cars’ limited space. For your primary equipment, we advise a barrel or soft bag (15 kg maximum), along with a camera bag or smaller “day pack” for the inside of the car.
Hard bags, suitcases, sonsonate, etc., are not appropriate because they make packing extremely challenging. We advise you to repack safari materials into your soft bag prior to the safari if you are traveling abroad with one. You can then leave your hard suitcase at your destination, such as the Entebbe Hotel, to pick it up later.
The baggage allowance for charter flights within Uganda is based on the combined weight of the passengers and their belongings. It varies depending on the aircraft and the itinerary, but it is typically limited to 10 kg per person in soft bags, and it is strictly enforced for safety reasons. Please verify your personal allowance on the aircraft and itinerary confirmation.
