Travel Healthy Requirements
If you are traveling between East African countries or are flying into South Africa after visiting East Africa, you must be vaccinated against yellow fever. You have ten days before your departure to complete this. You should speak with your doctor first if you have a history of liver diseases, such as hepatitis.
Although it is uncommon, typhoid may be obtained from the authorities upon entering Rwanda. Your neighborhood general practitioner or a travel clinic can handle this. Additionally, there is the pill form, which is only offered by specific pharmacies.
Although they are not required, cholera and tetanus are also advised.
The decision to get a hepatitis vaccination rests with the traveler.
Prophylactics against malaria are essential and can be bought at your neighborhood drugstore. Please speak with your doctor or pharmacist. Additionally, as mosquitoes are more likely to be present in the evenings and early mornings, it is a good idea to pack some insect repellent to apply to yourself.![]()
Diarrhea, guardia, etc. can be avoided with proper personal hygiene and control over the quality of your drinking water. Bottled water is widely available nationwide, but if you are going to be traveling alone for a while and not on a tour, bring some medication in case you need it. We advise visitors to take care of their own drinking water by either purchasing bottled water or bringing water purification pills.
The most recent information will be provided by your physician or travel clinic; the following is merely a reference. This is true for all medical requirements.
Monitoring the Medical Needs of Chimpanzees and Gorillas
Chimpanzees and mountain gorillas are particularly vulnerable to human illnesses like the flu and colds. You must be free of any diseases that are obviously contagious if you are going on a gorilla or chimp trek, and the park authorities examine this before the journey begins. They reserve the right to stop you from continuing the walk if they have any concerns about your health. We advise you to let your safari guide know as soon as possible if you are concerned about this issue, and he will ask for guidance on how to handle the matter.
Please refer to the paperwork provided at the time of booking to determine which SPECIAL, ADDITIONAL vaccinations and health certificates must be presented in order to guarantee participation if you are taking part in an NGAMBA ISLAND SANCTUARY CHIMPANZEE INTERACTION (NOT the day visits, but the actual INTERGRATION WITH THE CHIMPS or CAREGIVER PROGRAMMES where you spend the night on the island).
