9 Days Mountain Rwenzori Hiking
Mountain Rwenzori Trekking, Hiking, 9 Days Mountain Rwenzori, at 5,109 meters above sea level, is one of Uganda’s most physically demanding but fascinating excursions. Hikers and mountain trekkers can use the Rwenzori central circuit or the Kilembe trekking route to climb the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains national park in Uganda. This tour can be booked based on the number of days you have and your physical fitness. The southern mountain is near the Equator. We can arrange a trip to the area based on your availability and guarantee your safety and security.
Day by day
DAY 01:Â Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Kasese for overnight
To begin your journey to Kasese, you will be picked up from the airport or guest house after breakfast. It will take you about eight hours to make the drive. As you get ready for the hike the following day, you will make a lunch stop in Muende before continuing on to Kasese for the night at a nearby hotel.
DAY 02: Transfer to Sine Camp
You will transfer to the mountain’s footsteps to climb from 1,450 to Sine Hut 2,680m, where you will sleep.
This trip begins from the valley level through big Afro Montane Forest Zone trees and climbs steadily with many birds and a chance to observe blue monkeys running through the forest. Visitors can sometimes spot 15–20 black and white Colobus monkeys swinging through the trees. The L’Hoest monkey, a Bukonzo cultural symbol protected by the King or Omusinga, is rare to see, and you may hear wild chimpanzees. From forest trees to bamboo thickets, low shrubs, flowers, mushrooms, and moss and lichen-covered vines dangling from tall trees, the plant diversity is amazing. Enock’s Falls, 200 meters from Sine Hut, make an excellent screensaver. At Sine Camp 2,596 meters, wooden cottages are constructed amid towering forest trees on a small ridge where you may sit and enjoy the Afro Montane forest while watching a spectacular waterfall break over the rocks below.
DAY 03: Climb to Mutinda Camp
At 8 a.m., the trek begins, and you almost immediately enter the Bamboo-Mimulopsis Zone, a difficult ascent with numerous high stairs. The bamboo zone gets muddy and slippery during the rainy season, which slows down progress. But when you ascend 551 meters and travel 1.8 kilometers to reach Kalalama Camp at 3,147 meters in the Heather-Rapanea Zone, where you may pause and have a quick cup of tea or coffee before continuing on to Mutinda Camp, the atmosphere and the forest are stunning. Along a ridge top, the trail winds up and over a number of small knolls before descending the valley’s side and climbing once more. Along the way, it crosses a number of small streams and passes near moss-covered waterfalls.
DAY 04: Hike to Bugata Camp
The trail to Bugata Camp is muddy, especially during the rainy season, but with a little technique, you can step from tussock to tussock to make the journey simpler. Get up for breakfast at 8:00 am. Before ascending a steep portion to the Namusangi Valley (3,840 meters), which features spectacular waterfalls and breathtaking views of Mutinda Peaks in the distance, you must first traverse the Mutinda valley amid tussock grass and perennial flowers scattered with numerous giant lobelias. The trail climbs steadily to Bugata Camp at 4,100 meters, traversing the expansive Namusangi Valley with numerous ups and downs.
DAY 05: Hike to Hunwik’s Camp
Trek through Bamwanjarra Pass to Hunwick’s Camp. After leaving Bugata Camp, you travel up a ridge, descend a little, and then climb to 4,450-meter Bamwanjarra travel, where we have a cabin in case of inclement weather. On a clear day, the pass offers great views of the three main peaks. The trail descends the valley and skirts the bogs and dense moss and evergreen foliage. Massive lobelia and groundsel.
Given that it is a recognized breeding site and feeds on the numerous lobelia flowers, this is arguably the greatest spot in the Rwenzori to see the Malachite Sunbird. Further on, there are a few steep parts before a gradual ascent over a ridge to Hunwick’s Camp, which is perched above a wide valley with excellent views of McConnell’s Prong, Weismann’s Peak, Mount Stanley, and Mount Baker.
DAY 06: Transfer to Kiharo Camp
We descend and cross the valley floor from Hunwick’s to Lake Kitendara, which is breathtaking with its deep water and lush flora. From here, you ascend Scott Elliott’s pass and then the ridge to 4,485-meter Margherita Camp, which is sheltered from the harsh winds by a group of enormous boulders. When the Duke of Abruzzi climbed to Margherita Peak in 1906, he set his camp just here.
DAY 07: Descend to Samalira Camp
Get up at two in the morning, eat breakfast early, and then leave around two thirty to climb Mount Stanley. This is required since the weather has altered significantly, and even in the drier months, the peak is frequently boxed in with heavy clouds and snowfall from 1 pm to 4 pm. The clouds rise up from the vast Congo rainforests in a matter of 10 to 15 minutes.
To enjoy breathtaking views of Congo and the lower mountain ridges, we advise clients with less mountaineering experience to stay on Stanley Glacier and ascend to a nice viewpoint point on a rocky outcrop on the southern side of Alexandra Peak. You descend straight to Hunwick’s Camp at 3.874 meters after reaching the summit at 5,109 meters.
DAY 08: Descend to Base Camp
We begin the day at Hunwick’s Camp by ascending a ridge toward McConnell’s Prong, which offers the best views of Scott Elliott’s Pass and all three summits, before arriving at Oliver’s Pass, which is 4,505 meters above sea level. The trail crosses below Weismann’s Peak to the confluence of the Nyamwamba River, which runs down via Kilembe and Kasese to Lake George in Queen Elisabeth National Park. It is 3 kilometers from Hunwick’s Camp to the summit of Olivers Pass.
The trail winds down to Kiharo Camp, which is located in a deep valley with steep rocks and thick vegetation, after passing the confluence. After each bog, you will climb over a ridge of rocks and dirt that appears out of place but was actually forced there by glaciers that moved slowly. Eventually, the glaciers stopped moving, melted, and leaving behind a pile of boulders and debris where the glacier previously stood.
DAY 09: Back to Entebbe/airport to end the 9 Days Mountain Rwenzori Trekking
To conclude your nine-day Mountain Rwenzori Trekking, the guide will pick you up from the hotel after breakfast and take you back to Kampala, where you can be dropped off at the hotel or the airport.
