5-Day Ruaha National Park and Mikumi Wildlife Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Mikumi National Park
On arrival in Dar-es-Salaam, you will be greeted and transferred for a 5 to 6-hour drive to Mikumi National Park. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and relax. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in Mikumi National Park, home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, lions, wild dogs, elands, zebras, hyenas, wildebeest, hartebeests, crocodiles, hippos, and lizards. The park is also known for its birdlife, with over 300 recorded bird species. After a 3-hour game drive, return to your lodge for the evening.

Day 2: Drive to Ruaha National Park
After breakfast at 08:00 am, depart for Ruaha National Park, located 6 hours away. Covering an area of 20,226 square kilometers, Ruaha is Tanzania’s second-largest national park and is named after the Great Ruaha River, which flows through the park and attracts wildlife year-round. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at your lodge before embarking on an afternoon game drive. Expect to see buffalo, elephants, zebras, waterbucks, hartebeests, impalas, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, and jackals. The park also boasts a wide range of bird species, including saddle-billed storks, goliath herons, white-headed plovers, and vultures.

Day 3: Explore Ruaha National Park
After an early breakfast, set off on a full-day game drive to explore Ruaha National Park. The park’s diverse landscapes, from grassy plains to acacia-dotted hills, are home to one of the largest lion populations in Africa and significant populations of cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, hyenas, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and antelope species. Ruaha’s unique eastern and southern vegetation zones are a highlight, offering both beautiful flora and a wide variety of wildlife. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner.

Day 4: Nature Walk and Transfer to Iringa
After breakfast, meet your guide and armed rangers for a morning nature walk through Ruaha National Park. This is a unique opportunity to explore the wilderness on foot and enjoy close encounters with giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, impalas, and a variety of bird species. After the walk, return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on one last game drive before departing for Iringa. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy dinner.

Day 5: Transfer to Dar-es-Salaam and Departure
After a late breakfast, you will be transferred back to Dar-es-Salaam for your departure flight.
