5 Days Nyiragongo Hike and Gorilla Trekking Tour.
A unique adventure awaits you on the 5-day Nyiragongo Hike & Gorilla Trekking in Congo, which takes you into the remote woods of the Virunga National Park, one of Africa’s oldest national parks. You will walk the Nyiragongo Volcano in Congo, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, which rises more than 11,000 meters above sea level, after trekking mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park.
Day by day
DAY 01: Pick up from Kigali and Transfer to Gisenyi Lake Kivu
After picking you up from Kigali’s hotel or airport, our professional guide/driver will give you an overview of the journey. He will initially stop at the cultural center in Ibiwachu village, which is located in Ruhengeri, before continuing on his drive towards Gisenyi. You will take an optional boat excursion on Lake Kivu after arriving in Gisenyi.
DAY 02: Nyiragongo volcano hiking to the summit
Early in the morning, the driver will come and collect you from the hotel in Gisenyi town. He will provide you a well-informed guide and drive via Goma town to the Virunga National Park headquarters for a briefing. Hiking from Kibati starting point will begin at 10:30 am, and it will take around five hours to reach the top of Nyiragongo Mountain. After taking in the breathtaking views of the flaming volcano from the peak, you will have dinner and stay in the mountain camp tents.
DAY 03: Descend the Nyiragongo Volcano and Departure to Mikeno Lodge at Rumangabo
You will begin your day by having breakfast, and then, after descending from the peak of Nyiragongo, you will meet the driver and proceed to the Mikeno Lodge in Rumangabo, which is located close to Virunga National Park.
DAY 04: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park-Congo
Your guide will take you to the Park Headquarters for a briefing after your early breakfast, where you will join other people before beginning your gorilla walk in the Virunga forest. Depending on where you are assigned to hike with the mountain gorilla family on that specific day, this trek may take anything from thirty minutes to seven hours. After locating the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to spend an hour with them, observing their behavior and taking pictures. Following this, you will be required to return to the Park Headquarters to conclude your journey. Following the gorilla walk, you will next make your overnight travel to Goma.
DAY 05: Departure to Kigali to End the tour
On the final day of your tour, you have the option of flying out of Kigali or being driven back to your post-tour lodging. You will make a second stop at the Rwanda-Congo border crossing because you will be returning by the same road. You can take pictures, buy souvenirs, or just unwind before continuing on to Kigali.
