2 Days Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking tour

With an elevation of 3,470 meters (11,380 feet), the Nyiragongo Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It has erupted at least 34 times, with the most recent one occurring on May 22, 2021, forcing over 500,000 people to relocate to the surrounding areas of Goma. This two-day trip to Congo will allow you to hike the volcano. You will get the opportunity to climb to the summit of the volcano and see it exploding on this tour. This all-inclusive two-day Nyiragongo Volcano Hike will begin and finish in Kigali.

Day by day

DAY 01:  Nyiragongo hiking to the summit

Early in the morning, the driver will come and collect you from the hotel in Gisenyi town. After driving toward the Rwanda-Congo border, you will cross it and continue through Goma town to the headquarters of Virunga National Park, where you will receive a briefing and be accompanied by an informed guide. Hiking from Kibati starting point will begin at 10:30 am, and it will take around five hours to reach the top of Nyiragongo Mountain. There will be thorns and tall trees along the way, and the path will be steep, muddy, and slick. Dinner and lodging at the mountain camp tents upon arrival at the summits

DAY 02: Descend the Nyiragongo Volcano and Departure to Kigali to End the tour

To conclude the excursion, descend the Nyiragongo Volcano and head to Kigali.
After eating breakfast and descending from Nyiragongo Volcano Mountain, you will meet your driver and head back to Goma. If time permits, you can have a city tour of Goma, stopping at the Goma caves before continuing.
On the final day of your tour, you have the option of flying out of Kigali or being driven back to your post-tour lodging. You will make a second stop at the Rwanda-Congo border crossing because you will be returning by the same road. You can take pictures, buy souvenirs, or just unwind before continuing on to Kigali.
