This traditional safari vacation in Zambia highlights the finest that the nation has to offer, including animal encounters and exhilarating activities. For nighttime game drives, walking safaris, and game drives, start at South Luangwa National Park. Lower Zambezi National Park, which offers canoe safaris, fishing excursions, and sunset river cruises, comes next. One of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World, Victoria Falls, is where you will finish. With this Zambia vacation, you may explore parks that are abundant in wildlife and experience the cool spray from the falls.

Day By Day
Day 1: Arrival in Zambia & Transfer to South Luangwa National Park
You will take a domestic flight to Mfuwe after landing in the capital city of Lusaka, and then you will be transferred to South Luangwa National Park, your first safari destination. You’ll be lodging at Flatdogs Camp, which offers breathtaking views of the parklands and is the nearest camp to the main gate. After a lengthy drive, unwind with a sundowner while keeping an eye out for your first views of Zambia’s fauna. You can visit several of Flatdogs’ projects, including those in the neighboring town of Mfuwe, as they take pride in helping local communities.
Day 2-3: Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Start your exploration of South Luangwa with an open-top safari vehicle game drive in the morning. You will see a variety of species, including huge mammals and rare birds, especially when the animals gather to drink at the Luangwa River. Watch out for some of Zambia’s endemic species, such as Cookson’s wildebeest, Thornicroft’s giraffe, and Crawshay’s zebra.
At your safari camp, where you may see elephants, giraffes, and impala, spend the warmer parts of the day lounging by the pool. Take an adventurous night safari after an evening game drive to witness the nocturnal wildlife of South Luangwa come to life. Keep an eye out for unusual animals like the timid pangolin, the highly endangered African wild dog, and large cats on the prowl.
Day 4: Transfer to Nkonzi, South Luangwa National Park
By lodging at Nkonzi Camp, a small safari lodge in a secluded part of South Luangwa, you will venture farther into the national park after leaving Flatdogs. Returning to nature, you will sleep in an outside safari tent with all the amenities you need, including bucket showers and flushing toilets, and eat meals prepared with ingredients that are fresh and locally sourced. In the evenings, you will enjoy stargazing in the wilderness without light pollution while watching some bush TV (the campfire).![]()
Day 5-7: Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Enjoy morning and evening wildlife drives in this secluded South Luangwa National Park region. Early morning light and damp conditions allow for great animal photos. Explore Mfuwe bridge, head north to the park’s least-visited parts, or experience Mushilashi-Luwi’s reliable game viewing. Evening game drives leave camp at 4 pm and offer stunning sunset views and the chance to witness the park’s predators rise up and hunt.
Zambia invented the walking safari, which offers a new viewpoint on the country’s wildlife. Learn about Zambia’s complex ecosystems, plants, and fauna, then track large game using scat, footprints, and other indicators. African walking safari guides are among the most knowledgeable and trained.
Day 8: Transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park
Your Zambian safari journey continues when you take another domestic flight and travel to Chula Camp, one of the amazing Tusk & Mane collections, replacing South Luangwa with Lower Zambezi National Park. It is situated close to Jeki Airfield on Discovery Island. This island is full of surprises, much like a Jurassic Park! There are many open dambos and secret lagoons there. The game is amazing; to name a few, you may expect to witness herds of buffalo, lions, hyenas, leopards, and elephants.
Day 9-11: Exploring Lower Zambezi National Park
Explore Lower Zambezi National Park by foot, car, and boat. Here, you’ll observe kudu, impala, elephants, buffalo, lions, hyena, leopards, and colorful birds. Wetlands, bushveld, and rivers house kingfishers, bee-eaters, hornbills, vultures, owls, and parrots.
Fishing, canoe safaris, and river cruises on the Zambezi let you see wildlife drinking at the water’s edge. Enjoy a sunset drink while drifting alongside hippos and crocodiles.
Start early for a day of river fishing to catch a tigerfish (look out for their teeth!). This trophy species can weigh nine kilograms, but you may also catch bream, chess, nkupi, or vundu. Stop for lunch during the hottest part of the day and return for sundowners.
Day 12: Transfer to Livingstone (Victoria Falls)
Bid farewell to the national parks and proceed to Livingstone, a historic town that serves as the entry point to Victoria Falls, the world’s largest waterfall. A quiet and tranquil riverside retreat, Chundukwa River Lodge is a safari-style property on the Zambezi River that consists of five stilted cabins and a family home.
Day 13-14: Exploring Livingstone (Victoria Falls)
Victoria Falls, known locally as “Mosi Oa Tunya” (the smoke that thunders), is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and absolutely stunning. You’ll never run out of ways to enjoy the falls with so many activities. Walk along the walkways for breathtaking views and billowing spray, take a helicopter tour of the falls, and swim out to Devil’s Pool near to the thundering cascades!
The first European to visit Victoria Falls in 1855 was Scottish explorer David Livingstone. Its colonial architecture and spacious, tree-lined alleys make the town appealing. For regional history, visit the Livingstone Museum.
Day 15: Departure from Zambia
Your vacation to Zambia and the Victoria Falls comes to an end, but you’ll be leaving the airport with a camera full of pictures and a heart full of memories—from chasing waterfalls to seeing wildlife—to share with your loved ones back home.
