Zanzibar Beach Island Trip
A Journey to Zanzibar Zanzibar, often called Spice Island, is a stunning island on Africa’s east coast that is rich in culture and history. Beach Island is always a highlight of any trip to Tanzania. The beaches along Zanzibar’s coastline are among the best in the world, albeit the quality of the sand and surf varies depending on which side of the island you’re on. At low tide, little pools of anemones, tiny minnows, and starfish can be seen on the east coast, where waves crash over sandbars and coral reefs offshore. Smooth beaches and white sand make for brilliant days in the sun, and swimming in the water is far less prone to tides up north.
A night or two on the east or north coast is well worth the extra hour it takes to drive there, even if the beaches of Mangapwani, whose slave caverns may be seen at low tide, and adjacent Bububu are less than 30 minutes away. The west coast is dominated by the port city of Stone Town. However, the Chole Island Marine Park, which is close to Stone Town, as well as the Prison, Grave, and Snake Islands, provide a welcome diversion from the old city’s twisting alleys.![]()
