5 Days Marangu Hiking

With views of the Kibo and Mawenzi volcanoes, Marangu, also called the Coca-Cola Route, is the most traveled route on Kilimanjaro. The only route with overnight huts, which are useful during the rainy season, is the 5-day Marangu Hiking Trip.

Beginners and people who value comfortable conditions are advised to use this path. The Marangu Route is roughly 64 kilometers long. For improved acclimatization, you can choose to stay an additional day at Horombo Hut (3,720 meters).

For experienced hikers, this five-day Marangu Hiking Trip is the quickest hike. If you’re climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the first time, it’s okay to hike the Marangu Route for five or six days because the extra days help you become used to the altitude.

5 Days Marangu HikingDay by day

DAY 01:  Moshi – Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

After being collected from your lodging in Arusha, you will drive to Kilimanjaro National Park.
At this point, you will communicate with your guides and start climbing through the lush jungle that covers Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes.
You can go on a tiny safari while hiking through this old jungle for five to six hours, seeing species including black and white colobus monkeys.
The contemporary Mandara Huts, which feature amenities like solar lighting and flush bathrooms, is where you’ll spend the night. Those are not going to be around for long!

DAY 02: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

You have a big day of hiking ahead of you, so you’ll be leaving early today!
You will climb more than 11 kilometers today to reach the Maundi Crater, which will take you from the lush jungle into the bleak alpine zone.
Before turning in for the night, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo Glacier from here if the weather permits.

DAY 03: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

Today will be another exciting trekking day as you journey to Kibo Hut to camp before attempting to reach the summit.
You will reach Kibo Hut in the afternoon after climbing over 1,000 meters and passing your final watering station at 4,130 meters.
You’ll be up early tomorrow to start your climb to the top, so make sure to stay hydrated throughout your early meal!

DAY 04: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

You’re getting up early today—in fact, shortly after midnight!
As you get dressed and get your daypack ready for the trip, your climbing crew will wake you up with a cup of hot tea and a small snack to give you energy.
You will reach Stella Point a few hours before dawn if you hike slowly because you will be hiking in complete darkness for the following five to seven hours. You have two more hours of strenuous hiking from here to Uhuru Peak, your ultimate destination.
At 5,985 meters, you may enjoy the expansive vista and witness a breathtaking sunrise. You’ve succeeded.
After there, you’ll descend via Kibo Hut back to Horombo Hut. This is going to be one of the longest and most exhausting days of your life, with hiking lasting anything from 12 to 16 hours!

DAY 05: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi

Today is a festive day since you will have your final meal on the mountain before making your way down to the Marangu Gate.
Today’s walk is about 20 kilometers, but the constant descent makes it much easier than the climb. When you reach the gate, you can celebrate with your guides and porters, give them credit for their efforts, and pick up your completion certificate.
After that, your driver will take you to your accommodation in Arusha so you may relax comfortably.
before the following day’s safari begins.
