3 Days Hike Mount Gahinga Volcano
Hiking the Gahinga Mountain, one of the eight volcanic summits that make up the Virunga Mountain ranges that border Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is part of this three-day adventure excursion. At 3,474 meters above sea level, Mountain Gahinga is the smallest of the Virunga Volcanoes. It takes roughly three to four hours to trek Mount Gahinga to its highest point, therefore it is advisable to begin early in the morning.
Given that the climb is worthwhile and offers the chance to observe a variety of primates, including golden monkeys, mountain gorillas, and other exotic creatures, depending on your luck that day, you will need to be in good physical condition. An all-inclusive adventure vacation, the three-day Mount Gahinga Volcano Hike begins and ends in Entebbe/Kampala, but it can also be tailored to begin and finish in Kigali.
Day by day
DAY 01:Â Pick up from Kiampala/Entebbe and Transfer to Kisoro for overnight
After picking you up from the Kampala/Entebbe hotel or airport, the driver will take you to Kisoro, a town near the Mount Gahinga Volcano, where you will spend the night and have dinner. Along the way, you will stop at the Equator and have lunch, and then continue south to Kisoro. The journey is lengthy but incredibly exciting; you will stop at several locations to stretch and take in Uganda’s breathtaking scenery.
DAY 02: Full Day Hiking Mount Gahinga Volcano
The hike will take you about three to four hours to reach the summit of Mount Gahinga Volcano and back, and you will have several rest periods in between. You will get up early, eat breakfast at the Lodge, and drive to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park headquarters for a briefing. After that, you will be given knowledgeable guides for your hike. Following some time spent exploring atop the volcano, you will return to the starting point and make your way to the lodge for rest, supper, and overnight. You will also visit the nearby community for a Batwa cultural experience, depending on your fitness level and how long it takes you to return from the mountain.
DAY 03: Departure back to Kampala/Entebbe to End
After your three-day Mount Gahinga Volcano Hike, you will travel back to Entebbe or Kampala for drop-off, where you will have breakfast at the resort. Should you decide to conclude this trip in Kigali, you have the option of doing a Morning Gorilla Trek or Golden Monkey at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Following the trek, you can continue on to Kigali for your flight out or drop-off at the Lodge.
