11 Days Rwanda-DR Congo Primates and Cultural Safari
In addition to exploring Rwandan wildlife and culture, this 11-day Rwanda-DR Congo Primates and Cultural Tour allows you to see mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park and golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park.
Day by day
DAY 01: Arrival
Upon your arrival at the Kigali Airport, our safari guide will be waiting for you and will transport you to the town of Kigali, where you will have dinner and spend the night.
DAY 02: Kigali City Tour
Immediately following your breakfast at the hotel, you will embark on a city tour of Kigali Town, during which you will see the Genocide Sites and the Reconciliation Village in Bugesera. Additionally, you will pay a visit to the Gisozi Memorial Site, and you will conclude the day by revisiting additional genocide memorial sites and the reconciliation village in Bugesera. DAY 03: Pastoralist Heritage & Imigongo tour
After that, you will travel on an Imigongo trip to learn about art and design. The tour will take you to a pastoralist community, where you will not only witness but also take part in the traditional practice of cow grazing. An evening meal and a night spent at the lodge
DAY 04: Ethno Botany Tours
Learn the customary techniques and abilities for diagnosing illnesses and using traditional cures. Join traditional healers in the field to see how many diseases can be cured by combining or avoiding the seeds, leaves, bark, roots, and fruits. Liannas, lichens, insects, and other organisms all have important roles to play. Visit a local home in the afternoon when ladies from the area discuss their expertise preparing traditional meals.
DAY 05: Gisenyi
Following breakfast, you will go to Gisenyi, where you will see the town, the fishing village, the solid field lake from Nyiragongo Mountain’s 2002 eruption, and the hot springs. Unwind on the shore. Dinner and Sleeping
DAY 06: Banana and Sorghum beer production
Following breakfast, you will go to the areas of bananas and sorghum, which are some of Rwanda’s staple foods and are used for a variety of purposes, including food, local beer, and drinks. They are also crucial to cultural customs, particularly during our traditional wedding ceremonies, when resolving conflicts within the community, when fostering relationships between various families, etc. There are more than four species of banana plants in Rwanda, and each one has special practical applications and benefits that visitors will discover while they are there. DAY 07: Golden monkey trekking and optional activities in Parc Nationale Des Volcanoes
After breakfast at the Lodge in the morning, you will be driven to Parc National des Volcans’ Park Headquarters. Here, you’ll meet your ranger guides, who will give you a quick rundown of how to act in the jungle while looking for golden monkeys and provide you with additional information about their habits and lifestyles before you go.
You will go into the forest to look for these rare and endangered golden monkey species after the briefing. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and adventure that one should never pass up. Trekkers need to be physically fit and strong enough because the terrain can be difficult and muddy at times. Since the activity is expected to last four to six hours, it is recommended that you bring a packed lunch. Go back to your resort and unwind.
DAY 08: Transfer to Butare
The Basilica of Kabgayi, the historic King’s palace at Nyanza, the National Museum, and Butare, often known as “the intellectual town of Rwanda,” will be among the attractions that you will see on your transfer to Butare after breakfast. Come back to Kigali and spend the night there.
DAY 09: Transfer to Bukima in Congo
The driver will pick you up from the Kigali hotel early in the morning and give you an orientation on the safari. After that, you will travel to Bukima in Congo, where you will stop for lunch after a four-hour drive to Goma town. After lunch, he will keep driving to Bukima, where you will spend the night. DAY 10: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park-Congo
Your guide will take you to the Park Headquarters for a briefing after your early breakfast, where you will join other people before beginning your gorilla walk in the Virunga forest. Depending on where you are assigned to hike with the mountain gorilla family on that specific day, this trek may take anything from thirty minutes to seven hours. After locating the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to spend an hour with them, observing their behavior and taking pictures. Following this, you will be required to return to the Park Headquarters to conclude your journey.
DAY 11: Departure to Kigali to End the tour
Following breakfast, you will either be transported back to Kigali for your post-tour lodging or, on the final day of your tour, you can opt to go by plane. Your 11-day Rwanda-DR Congo Primates & Cultural Tour will come to a conclusion when you return via the same path, stopping again at the Rwanda-Congo border crossing for pictures, souvenir purchases, or just to unwind.
